Drawing on the long history of art inspiring poetry, Craven Arts Council and Gallery (CAC&G) will hold an ekphrastic poetry competition during its annual Juried Exhibition. Poets from across the state of North Carolina are encouraged to view the show online at cravenarts.org starting September 21or at the gallery starting October 14 and write a poem inspired by one piece. Poets are also encouraged to utilize CAC&G’s online resources in creating their poem, including a recording of 2008 Pulitzer Winner for Poetry Rae Armantrout discussing her winning collection, Versed. Winners receive the following prizes: 1st Prize: $100, 2nd Prize: $75, 3rd Prize: $50, and ten $25 honorable mentions. Submission deadlines: November 8th for Youth Submissions, and November 9th for Adult Submissions. Entries will be juried by Pulitzer Finalist Alan Shapiro. Selected entries will be read in the gallery with the artwork at the November 11 Pulitzer-worthy Ekphrastic (Art-Inspired) Poetry event. CAC&G will also produce a book of the winning entries and the poems it inspired. For more information visit cravenarts.org
